Gregg Wallace's unsightliness could spell 'huge mistake' in marriage after he 'picks women like cars' |
Gregg Wallace has hit back at those accusing him of making inappropriate sexual comments on MasterChef after complaints were made to Ofcom - but the TV star has slammed women before.
Gregg Wallace has never been shy about sharing his romantic regrets, and one ‘mistake’ saw him the ‘unhappiest’ he’s ever been.
The MasterChef host, who withdrew from the role this week after a BBC investigation into allegations of his misconduct was opened, has since clapped back at his accusers, describing them as "middle-class women of a certain age". The 13 people have accused Gregg, 60, of making unwanted sexual comments, and he has denied all of the allegations.
Sharing a post on Instagram on Saturday, the TV presenter vented: 'I have been doing MasterChef for 20 years – amateur, celebrity and professional MasterChef and I think during that time I have worked with over 4,000 contestants of all ages, all backgrounds and all walks of life.
“And I’m reading in the paper now that apparently there’s been 13 complaints in that time.” I can see the newspaper bile spitting from a small group of middle-class women of a certain age just on Celebrity MasterChef. This isn't right. Do you know how many women, female contestants on MasterChef in over 20 years of television have said sexual comments or sexual innuendo, can you imagine?”
CORI + GOLIATH: AWAY FROM THE SPOTLIGHT Gregg is married to his wife Anne-Marie Sterpini, 37, an Italian woman whom he refers to as Anna, and they have a four-year-old son named Sid together. But before he met his true love, Gregg had not one, but three failed marriages, including one that lasted only six weeks.
Wife No 3 was biology teacher Heidi Brown, whom he met on Twitter — as he did Anne-Marie. The couple divorced in 2012, just 14 months after they exchanged 'I dos' at a lavish no-expense-spared wedding ceremony.
Gregg has not been shy about his failed marriage to Heidi, having previously called the romance a "huge mistake". The outspoken BBC star added: "[It was] probably the unhappiest I have ever been in my life but she was also a teacher and she really was good with the kids. The presenter, who had two children in previous relationships before his youngest lad Sid came along.
The split from Heidi was followed by a series of flings with 'beautiful' women and Gregg's therapist gave him a blunt warning. The telly star told the Daily Mail that after another failed marriage, he only wanted to go out with women who made him feel ‘like riding in my Jag with the roof down’ when he walked into restaurants with them. But his therapist told him he would never be happy as long as he kept picking women the way he picked cars, he said.
“A lot of the reason I had so many girlfriends was I was always searching for somebody,” Gregg shared three years ago. I mean, I think it’s a complete game of chance. What are the odds that you will find someone who you not only find attractive and makes you feel comfortable and happy, but who is actually seeking what you have to offer?”
Fortunately for him, Twitter bailed him out once again when he was chatting to his now-wife Anna about rhubarb. Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, Gregg said: “What has love taught me? That it is a pure luck game and that is all there is to it. It is a zero-sum lottery, in which you can never be sure of your chances and must settle for whatever prize comes your way. I’m pretty lucky I grabbed the winning ticket. That day that girl waltzed into my life, I was won the Euro Millions. She showed up on my timeline on Twitter.”
Gregg, who was originally Alberta-born, gushed on Good Morning Britain in January this year about how Anna had changed his life. He Added:´That young woman has changed my life, and there's a 22-year age gap, we have been together for ten years and we have a son, Sid, and I want to be there for them.
It comes amid the couple's unusual living arrangement - as the TV judge explained that they live with Anna's parents, Rina and Massimo, at his £1million Kent mansion. His in-laws help out at home, often prepare tea and even sleep with Sid in their room half the week so that Gregg and Anna can get a break.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Gregg explained: "I'm a much better father now that I'm older, but another child isn’t something I would have chosen at my age. I was very open with Anna, but it was what she wanted and I loved her. I simply asked for two things – that we’ve got help in the house (so that her mum moved in with us) and that we had at least one week a year when we went on holiday just the two of us.
