Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum’s messy fight over the Magic Mike franchise is finally over. The ex-couple reached an agreement & settled their divorce.
Their talks dragged on for years. They were arguing about intellectual property and how to split the money from the successful movie series.
Details of their settlement aren’t public, but they signed a binding agreement this week that wraps everything up.
So, the court showdown set for December is called off.
If Tatum or Dewan have future custody issues, they agreed to handle it privately with a judge, based on court records filed in LA.
They also both agreed to waive spousal support for each other.
Dewan & Tatum married after meeting on the set of the film Step Up in 2006. They announced their split in 2018 with a joint social media statement, saying there were "no secrets nor salacious events" behind their decision.
“Nothing has changed about our love for one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths," they shared in the statement.
Though officially single since November 2019, their divorce process stalled due to disputes over Tatum’s lucrative Magic Mike deals from the 2012 hit film.
The Hartford-born actress said money used during their marriage financed the Magic Mike franchise, which includes sequels, an HBO reality show called Finding Magic Mike, and a live Vegas show.
Tatum and director Steven Soderbergh co-financed the project. The film was based on Tatum’s time as a stripper in Florida.
Their $7 million investment turned into a blockbuster, making $167 million worldwide.
Celebrity lawyer Samantha Spector, representing Dewan, stated Tatum’s team “deprived Jenna of her fair share of the community estate” and was disadvantaging her every day this case continued.
Spector estimated the Magic Mike business could be “a potential billion-dollar asset.”
Tatum’s lawyer Jacqueline Combs countered that most of Magic Mike’s earnings came after he and Dewan separated.
The actor said he always agreed Dewan should have a piece of Magic Mike.
“I have never denied her any community assets or income,” wrote the 44-year-old star. “Her claims that I colluded with third parties are just not true.”
“She has had full access to all our financial records from our marriage and since we split up,” he added. “I keep providing her updates on Magic Mike finances.”
The former Step Up co-stars share an 11-year-old daughter named Everly. They split custody 50/50 since February 2020.
Tatum is now engaged to Zoë Kravitz, who’s 35 and stars in her directorial debut Blink Twice.
Dewan got engaged to actor Steve Kazee, 48, in 2020. They’re parents to Callum, four,& baby girl Rhiannon.
The actress posted “Thank you universe” on Instagram along with a smiling selfie on Wednesday – just a day after she & Tatum signed the final divorce papers.
